Life Legacy

Mrs. Susie Mae Owens Spigner was the twelfth child born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie (Hattie) Owens on September 16, 1916 in Bullock County, Alabama.

She was married to the late Mr. William Spigner for forty years and to this union nine children were born. Their daughter, Fannie Spigner Woody preceded her in passing.

After her husband's passing she married the late Rev. Elmore Williams. She acepted Christ at an early age. After moving to Birmingham she united with Rising Star A.M.E. Zion Church where she served as a faithful, supportive member until her health began to fail. She served in various areas of church work: Deaconess, Choir, Usher, Missionary and Lay Council Member. She was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. She emphasized that God was worthy to be praised and "stayed on the battlefield for her Lord".

She became a member of the Eastern Star Humphrey Beauty Chapter #22, Troy, Alabama on May 17, 1946.

She was a loving and nurturing mother to all of her children and children of the community. She would open her home and help people in need.

On July 5, 2010 she made her transition to her eternal home.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Willie (Linda) Spigner, Jr., James C. (Marian) Spigner, Jimmie Lee Spigner; five daughters, Ossie S. (Henry) Underwood, Ella L. Spigner, Mattie S. House, Patricia S. McAdory, and Janice S. Knighten; twenty-five grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends, including her special nephew, Mr. Carterie (Rebecca) Owens.
