Arlean Burrell was born Arlean Lewis to Willie and Earline Gladney Lewis on October
30, 1960 in Birmingham, AL.
She matriculated through Birmingham City Schools and graduated from Parker High
School. After graduation, she worked in the hospitality and healthcare service industries for a
number of years before she left the workforce in 2021.
Arlean was serious about her walk with God. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal
Lord and Savior. For years she was a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, where her
father was a deacon, under the pastorship of the late Rev. E.D. Harris and then Rev. Leon May.
She would later attend The Rock Church under Pastor Mike McClure Jr.
Arlean married Randolph Burrell on August 11, 1989. Unto this union they birthed a
daughter, Shantae Renee. Their family also included Randolph’s children: Randolph Jr., Kristy,
and Christopher. Later, Arlean was blessed with three grandchildren of her own, in addition to
her “bonus” grandchildren.
Even as her health declined, she would boldly proclaim, “I know my God loves me!” and
would constantly tell her family and even her caretakers “I love you.” After a life well lived,
Arlean completed her earthly walk and transitioned to her heavenly duties on Thursday, May 14,
2026.
Arlean was loved by a large family, which included biological and stepchildren. She was
predeceased by both of her parents.
Left to carry on her legacy are her daughter Shantae Renee Lewis and her grandchildren
Jari, Ja’Mya, and Cameron Jr. Also mourning her passing are Randolph Jr., Kristy, and
Christopher (Robin) Burrell.
Arlean also leaves behind an especially devoted cousin, William “James” Ash and her
longtime friend from childhood, Mary James. She also leaves a host of in-laws, cousins,
extended family and friends.
