Arthurie McAdory-Luster was born on September 4th to Arthur and Marie McAdory. She was the namesake of both her mother and father, and from the very beginning, her life reflected the strength, dignity, and love of the family whose name she carried so proudly. As the eldest of five children and the only daughter, she held a special place in the family and embraced it with grace, resilience and determination. From her earliest years, she was known for her remarkable strength of spirit, steadfast faith, and deep devotion to those she loved.
She began her collegiate studies at Alabama State University and later transferred to Miles College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She continued her studies at UAB, where she received credentials in Special Education. Arthurie devoted more than three decades to the Shelby County School District, faithfully serving as an educator, mentor, and guiding light to countless students at Thompson High School. Her classroom was a place of wisdom, encouragement, discipline, and care, and her commitment to excellence was recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year for 1996-1997. After 31 years of dedicated service, she retired in 2003, leaving a lasting imprint on the many children, families, and colleagues whose lives she touched.
Arthurie was nurtured in a strong and loving family foundation and was a devoted member of 21st Street Baptist Church. In later years, she faithfully worshiped with the church families her husband served as pastor, embracing each congregation with love, commitment, and wholehearted devotion. Her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life and was evident in the way she served others with humility, compassion, and grace.
